GATE 2025 Question Paper Pattern and Types of Questions

Types of Questions:

  1. 1. Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs): These questions will have four options, out of which only one option is correct. Candidates need to select the correct option for each question. MCQs are designed to test the candidate's understanding and knowledge of the subject.
  2. 2. Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): MSQs will have four options, out of which one or more options may be correct. Candidates need to select all the correct options to score marks. MSQs assess the candidate's ability to analyze and apply concepts.
  3. 3. Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions: NAT questions do not have options. Candidates need to enter the numerical answer using the virtual keypad. These questions test the candidate's problem-solving skills and application of concepts.

Marking Scheme:

  1. 1. For MCQs, there is 1/3rd negative marking for incorrect answers. -0.3333 marks deducted for each wrong answer of 1-mark and -0.6667 marks deducted for each wrong answer of 2-marks.
  2. 2. For MSQs, questions, no negative marking is applied. Marks assign for only Correct answered.
  3. 3. For NATs questions, no negative marking is applied. Candidates need to provide the exact numerical value to receive full marks. Normally Official answer are given in range for Decimal values.
