M.Tech admission in IITs

M.Tech admission in IITs

Four of my student ( Anshul Sharma ) got 99 + percentile in GATE-2011 and an all India rank between 280-290.  He is computer science IT candidate and highly interested for any IIT for M.Tech programme. I did Ph.D. from computer science deppt. and worked closely on M.Tech admission process with admission committee for more than two years. Visited and appeared for tests all over IITs, IISc and ISI Kolkatta. I analysed few things and want to share with all students:

Tips and few Advises

  1. A good GATE score does not guarantee your admission to M.Tech at IITs, especially to Computers, Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
  2. Apply at all IITs and IISc don’t loose it because of over confidence.
  3. Wait for call for a written test and interview.
  4. Prepare well for exam as it is not like gate (multiple choice) most of the IITs give some descriptive and analytical questions for further review of knowledge.
  5. At Few IITs Interview play the vital important role, as they see you problem solving skill. If you got a chance then tell them the subject you are very strong concepts.
  6. More than one IITs may call you around the same time or very close to each other so be mentally prepared for this and choose as per your priority.
  7. There are few other courses where you easily get seats in IITs. If you want to keep your position safe then go for such option.
  8. If you are unable to get in into IITthen go for NITs or good alternatives.
  9. Keep your eyes on recent expected cutoff and total applicants in your areas at respective institutes.

Follow given tip & advices in detail and don’t hesitate to post your doubts and queries for admission process. Let’s hope for best, Good Luck to all.

  7. On the GATE website it has been officially announced that 70%weighted will be given to GATE score and 30% to interview/internal exam which the institute chooses to take.
Further the interview they take is not that tough it last for a maximum of 25 mins as compared to other PSU’s .

  8. How is the Research Program in IITs (M.Tech+PhD integrated admission on the basis of GATE score)?
If one doesnt get in IIT for MTech, then which is better? (MTech=PhD in IIT for 5 years or MTech in NIT).
